Books I'm reading at the moment:

Heart to Heart Parenting by Robin Grille
(Fascinating stuff - did you know that the global average age of weaning is 4.2 years?! Since learning this I've decided to chill out about the fact that my 15 month old is still pretty much feeding like a newborn, night and day, although I think 2 years will have to be my absolute limit. I am exhausted! Anyway, I really recommend this book - it's great.)

Started Early, Took My Dog by Kate Atkinson
(Not sure about the title, but I love Kate Atkinson's writing and have devoured the Jackson Brodie series. This is the fourth one and it has me captivated already. My favourite of hers, however, is still Behind the Scenes at the Museum, which I must reread some time soon. The only problem is I keep giving away copies - I think I'm on my third! Sign of a good book: not having it on your shelf.)

Ugly Fish by Kara LaReau and Scott Magoon
(Brilliant picture book. I think this might be one of those ones that I like more than she does! It's very funny and dark and there's a moral. My three year old kind of gets it, but mostly she's just amused by my chuckles. It's not going back to the library just yet.)

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

In recent weeks, there's been some fruit-inspired baking happening in our kitchen, plus a little jelly-making too:

Rhubarb Cornmeal Cake - Super moist, not too sweet, and perfect with a big cup of tea.

Plum Cake - helped us through an overcast Sunday afternoon. Everyone was feeling a bit tired and grumpy!

Pear jelly with apricots and mandarins. I thought this would be a good way of cooling the kids down and filling them up with delicious stone-fruit, but they weren't nearly as keen on it as I was!

My little nature lovers...

climbing trees...

studying the wildlife...

painting gumnuts!!!

Well, the days are long and the afternoons hot, and we had collected quite a lot of gumnuts from the park...and of course, after they were finished, they decided to paint themselves!

Things that are making us happy right now:

Building sandcastles on the beach.

Twice the size! Hopefully this will mean I don't have to go shopping every single day of the week... somehow I doubt it!

Special weekend breakfasts, especially when they include cinnamon buns made by someone other than me.

Zoo membership! We could go every day if we wanted too...

Christmas and birthdays, amongst other things, have left me exhausted and heading to bed at the embarrassingly early time of 8.30pm! Hence the reason for so few blogs lately, but I shall try harder...
