Here are some Christmas books that we've been reading over the last couple of weeks. My daughter, at almost 3, is just starting to become aware of the concept of Christmas and all its traditions. This evening, she told me that her Father Christmas won't be wearing red; he'll be in white! Hopefully in cotton or linen, and not velvet and fur too - it's pretty humid right now!
The Night Before Christmas (Book and CD) by Clement C. Moore & Eric Pubyaret
Magical illustrations for this beautiful, classic Christmas poem.
Santa's Aussie Christmas by Maria Farrer and Anna Walker
Funny, very Australian, and gorgeously illustrated.
Mrs Pepperpot's Christmas by Alf Proysen
One from my childhood that we rediscovered on Grandad's book shelf. It has a certain old-fashioned charm!

I grew up in England, and Christmas in the midst of the Aussie Summer heat still feels decidedly odd to me. Perhaps that explains our rather unusual Christmas decorations...or perhaps we're just a bit eccentric! Either way, they were a lot of fun to make, and we're not finished yet...

We are still swamped by lemons (not that I'm complaining), and this is the latest lemony delicacy I've added to my repertoire: Demerara Lemon Cake with Thick Yoghurt courtesy of Nigel Slater's The Kitchen Diaries. Super moist and a lovely combination of sweet and sour lemon. Yum!
