For me, there's nothing like the promise of a new notebook. This one was a gift and has already inspired four pages of rapidly scrawled prose (more than I've managed in a shamefully long time). I'm still to master the skill of writing with children hanging off every limb (mine don't sleep during the day, and if they do, they sleep on me!), but I'm sure it's possible...

All my posts seem to be about food these days. I guess providing sustenance is a major part of being a mummy, so no wonder I'm obsessed... hmm, I think I've actually always been a little obsessive about food! Anyway, here's another new delicacy we've been enjoying: dried apricot, fig and coconut balls. Very "Christmas-in-July" not to mention melt-in-your mouth delicious.

Avocado & beetroot with a splash of cream...such a beautiful colour, I just had to document it! It was a big hit with the baby too.

It's been a blustery, squally day here with the threat of a storm looming, so we comforted ourselves with generous servings of baked rice pudding. We also made a new hairband, which for some reason has to be worn over the older, too small, one! Looks pretty cool though.

It's been over three months since my birthday and I still have birthday money to spend! With two children under the age of three, shopping isn't the experience it used to today, with just one small, sleeping child safely snuggled up in the Ergo carrier (don't get me started on how much I love this thing), I hit the shops with the intention of spending some serious moolah. Well, I didn't get any further than the bookshop, but I did find a gorgeous cookbook to splurge on: Wholefood for Children by Jude Blereau. I'm so excited by this book, having been greatly inspired by Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food earlier this year. It looks beautiful and the few recipes I've glanced over sound scrumptious and nutritious. The amazing Jude also runs a cooking school in Perth called Wholefood Cooking. Her blog is worth checking out too.

Now, I just need to buy a new pair of shoes, a bag, a warm cardigan, some pretty dresses...

A photograph from our walk today...

More lemon-inspired baking! This time a zucchini, chocolate and lemon cake, loosely based on a recipe from The Australian Women's Weekly Cakes and Slices. We were out of oranges, so I experimented... strangely enough, the combination worked pretty well!

Shoes that make you want to dance?
Everyone should have a pair!

The lemon trees are laden, so we're dreaming up all sorts of lemony treats. These super simple lemon biscuits (butter, flour, sugar, lemon rind and juice) are just the beginning. What I really want to try is Nigel Slater's Lemon Trifle from one of my favourite cookbooks, The Kitchen Diaries. Watch this space!
